To get a free COVID-19 (coronavirus) PCR test at a HSE COVID-19 test centre you can:
- book online
- phone a GP
You cannot use a HSE COVID-19 test result for international travel from Ireland. If you need a letter for travel, you need to have a negative PCR test from a private company. They will give you the letter you need to travel.

Book a COVID-19 PCR test online
You can book a COVID-19 PCR test online. You cannot book online for someone else, unless you are booking for your child and they are under 16.
Who can get a test
You can get a PCR test if you have not had a positive COVID-19 PCR test in the last 9 months. Only get another test if you have symptoms of COVID-19.
Children under 16 must have an adult with them if they are getting a test. A parent or guardian must give consent for a child under 16 to have a test.
If you have symptoms of COVID-19, self-isolate (stay in your room) and only go out to get a PCR test. If your symptoms get worse or you are worried about symptoms, phone your GP.
Test result
You will need to provide a mobile phone number at the test centre. You will get your test result by text message. Airlines will not accept this text as evidence for travel.
Walk-in test centre locations and times
Walk-in testing is not currently available but you can book a test online for any test centre.
